American singer Joe Jonas and actress Sophie Turner have finalized their divorce following a protracted year-long legal battle. According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the couple recently reached a settlement, which has been approved by a judge.
While the specifics of the agreement remain confidential, it was previously reported that Turner, 28, and Jonas, 35, had been working through mediation to settle issues related to child custody and asset division.
The couple, who married in 2019, share two daughters: Willa, four, and Delphine, two. Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023 after months of rumors about their split. In March, Turner sought to “reactivate” the divorce proceedings, which had been paused during mediation. Unable to reach a resolution, Turner requested that a judge finalize the divorce and determine custody arrangements.
The mediation aimed to keep their personal matters private, but with their filings now becoming public, details of their disputes will be exposed. A major point of contention was where their daughters would reside full-time. Turner wanted to move them to the UK, while Jonas preferred to keep them in the United States.
The couple’s prenuptial agreement likely simplified the division of property, but they struggled to agree on custody. At one point, Turner filed a child abduction claim against Jonas, though she later withdrew it. She had alleged that Jonas was violating international law by preventing their children from traveling to the UK.
In October 2023, a temporary custody arrangement was established after Turner sued Jonas for trying to prevent a planned trip to the UK. The arrangement granted each parent two weeks with their daughters at a time and allowed for travel between the US and the UK.
This agreement enabled Jonas to take the girls on tour with The Jonas Brothers while Turner could spend Christmas with them in the UK. The resolution of custody issues was anticipated to facilitate the finalization of their divorce.
Jonas filed for divorce in Miami, Florida on September 1.
