The unnamed individual, in his 60s, was discovered unconscious at home by his brother and rushed to the hospital. A CT scan revealed a 3.5-inch long eyeliner stick lodged near his rectum, which doctors believe was used for sexual stimulation.
The patient, who cross-dressed, was in too critical a condition for surgery and died two days after being admitted. An autopsy revealed that the eyeliner had punctured his bladder, leading to the formation of an egg-sized mass.
Doctors suspect that he died from sepsis due to a severe kidney infection. His medical history was largely unknown as he seldom visited doctors. In the weeks leading up to his death, he experienced abdominal pain, anorexia, and diarrhea.
Upon arriving at the hospital, the patient was unconscious, suffering from a high heart rate, low blood pressure, and a fever of 100°F (38°C). Despite being treated with antibiotics and medication for his low blood pressure, his condition worsened, and he passed away after several failed attempts to resuscitate him.
A police investigation after his death uncovered evidence that the man had a habit of wearing women’s clothing and found a vibrator hidden in his room. At the time of his autopsy, his left fingernails were painted red, leading experts to believe the eyeliner was inserted for sexual purposes.
The autopsy also revealed small wounds on his buttocks and an ulcer in the perineum. The eyeliner had penetrated his bladder and was embedded in a large bladder stone. This injury caused a rectovesical fistula, which fused his rectum, lower colon, and bladder. Additionally, he developed an infection in his left kidney, which spread to his spleen.
The infection, likely from bacteria on the eyeliner, led to sepsis, a dangerous immune response. Doctors believe this is the first reported case of complications from a foreign object in the rectum years after insertion. They emphasized that sexual activity should be considered a possible cause of death, even if it occurred years prior.
