Ayu Andriani, 13, was discovered deceased in the Chinese cemetery at Talang Kerikil TPU, Palembang, Indonesia.
According to police reports, her body was found with foam coming from her nose and mouth. The community located Ayu’s body around 1:00 p.m. and notified the police.
Kemuning Police Chief AKP Firmansyah received the report from residents at approximately 4:00 p.m. Authorities promptly transported Ayu’s body to Bhayangkara Hospital in Palembang.
Forensic examination by Dr. Indra Nasution of Bhayangkara Hospital revealed that Ayu’s death was due to lack of oxygen and asphyxia, indicating she had been strangled.
The police investigation led to the arrest of four boys, all minors. The oldest suspect is Imam Satrio Bin Moses, 16. The other suspects, all between the ages of 12 and 13, are Nail Shams Afzal Bin Abwar Riswandi, M Zaid Al Fiki Als Viki Bin Inaidi, and Agan Septiano Aditya Bin Dedi Halimi.
Online videos show Ayu’s body on the cemetery floor with locals gathered around and another video depicts a man, believed to be Ayu’s father, grieving her death as he is comforted by others.
The tragic case has provoked outrage, particularly due to the young age of the suspects involved.
