A Ukrainian father has tragically lost his entire family—his wife and three daughters—in a Russian missile and drone attack on Lviv overnight, according to the city’s mayor.
Yevheniya Bazylevych’s family was among the seven victims killed in this strike on the western Ukrainian city, which is known for its relative safety and proximity to the Polish border, Mayor Andriy Sadovyi reported.
In a post on X, Mayor Sadovyi condemned the attack, stating, “In the center of Europe, Russia is eliminating Ukrainians by destroying entire families. They are killing our children, our future.”
Alongside a photo of the family, he added, “After today’s attack, the only survivor is the man. Mother Yevheniya and her three daughters—Yaryna, Daryna, and Emiliya—were killed.”
The victims’ daughters were aged seven, 18, and 21. Yaryna, the eldest, had been involved in youth projects with the mayor’s office. The strikes inflicted damage on over 70 structures, including schools, homes, and clinics, and left more than 50 people injured.
Emergency footage showed rescuers retrieving bodies from a damaged building, with a woman desperately seeking information about her daughter and granddaughters. Another video depicted rescue workers carrying a girl’s body from the rubble, with a bloodied Bazylevych visible nearby.
On the same day, Russia also targeted Kryvyi Rih, injuring five people, including a 10-year-old child. The attack damaged several buildings, including educational institutions, a hotel, a pharmacy, and various shops.
This assault followed one of the war’s deadliest attacks, where Russia hit a military institute in Poltava, killing 50 and injuring hundreds. Ukraine’s air force reported intercepting seven out of 13 missiles and 22 out of 29 drones during recent attacks.
In response, President Volodymyr Zelensky urged allies to provide more air defenses and long-range weapons to counteract the Russian attacks. Russia, meanwhile, has threatened a “severe” response to any Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory and has intensified its missile and drone attacks on Ukraine over the past ten days.
