Excitement is building for the Greek royal family as Princess Theodora prepares to marry her fiancé, Matthew Kumar, this Saturday. The couple originally planned to wed in 2020 but had to postpone due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the expected guests is Theodora’s paternal aunt, Queen Sofia of Spain. However, with the British royal family’s close ties to the Greek royals, the question arises: Will any of the Windsors be present?
Theodora’s late father, King Constantine, was a second cousin to King Charles and served as the godfather to both the Prince of Wales and Lady Gabriella Windsor.
Earlier this year, Princess Anne represented the British royals at Constantine’s funeral in Athens, and members of both royal families gathered for a service of thanksgiving at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, in February.
Despite these connections, it’s unlikely that King Charles and Queen Camilla will attend the wedding, as they are scheduled to be in Scotland on Saturday to mark the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.
The Prince and Princess of Wales are also unlikely to attend, as Kate has recently completed her cancer treatment.
There is a possibility that extended members of the royal family, such as Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, may attend. The couple were present at the wedding of Theodora’s brother, Prince Philippos, and Nina Flohr, in 2021.
Born on 9 June 1983 in London, Theodora is the daughter of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie. She counts the late Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Margrethe of Denmark among her godparents.
After attending Woldingham School in Surrey, Theodora went on to study Theatre Arts at Brown University and also attended Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
