Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has criticized Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag for his approach since taking over the club.
In a recent appearance on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Ronaldo expressed his discontent with Ten Hag’s attitude and conduct as United’s boss.
Ronaldo remarked, “As I’ve mentioned before, Manchester United needs a complete rebuild, in my view. The coach has said they’re not in a position to compete for the League or the Champions League.
“As Manchester United’s coach, you can’t publicly admit that you’re not going to fight for these titles. You have to maintain a mindset of trying, even if you don’t think you have the potential.”
While Ronaldo initially thought Ten Hag’s appointment was a positive step, he continued to criticize the Dutch manager. He suggested, “If Ten Hag listens to Ruud, it might benefit him. Ruud knows the club, and the club should value the input of those who have been there.
“People like you [Rio], Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, and Sir Alex Ferguson understand the club’s dynamics. You can’t rebuild a club without that kind of knowledge. The insights from those who’ve been in the dressing room are invaluable.”
Ronaldo believes Ruud van Nistelrooy’s experience at the club could be helpful, stating, “Ruud knows the club, the fans, and if the coach listens to him, it could lead to some improvements.”
Under Ten Hag, Manchester United has finished third and eighth in the Premier League, while winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
Ronaldo, a legendary figure at Old Trafford with 145 goals in 326 appearances and nine trophies, saw his second stint end in controversy following a falling-out with Ten Hag. Ronaldo terminated his contract and expressed feeling ‘betrayed’ by the manager.
