The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are back to their royal duties in an exciting way. Following a summer spent with Prince Edward’s brother, King Charles, at Balmoral, the couple has now traveled to Paris for the 2024 Paralympic Games to support British athletes.
On Wednesday morning, Edward and Sophie flew from London Heathrow to Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris, where they were greeted by Dame Menna Rawlings, His Majesty’s Ambassador to the French Republic. Dame Menna later shared a photo with the royals on X (formerly Twitter), showing Sophie in a navy blazer over a blue and white floral dress paired with white trainers, while Edward wore a navy jacket, blue checked shirt, and grey trousers.
“Delighted to welcome the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh to France for the @Paris2024 #Paralympic Games. Their Royal Highnesses will be supporting @paralympicsGB as Patrons of #BritishParalympicAssociation, @BritishCycling, and @GBhockey,” wrote Menna.
The Duke and Duchess joined the ambassador to cheer on wheelchair fencer Oliver Lam Watson at the event and visited athletes in the Paralympic Village, according to the Court Circular.
Accompanying the royal couple on their trip were their private secretary, Brigadier Alexander Potts, and assistant private secretary, Jason Keen.
Meanwhile, their daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, 20, is preparing to return to St Andrews University for her third year studying English, and their son, James, Earl of Wessex, 16, is likely beginning his A-Levels after receiving his GCSE results last month, though Buckingham Palace has not disclosed his grades. Neither Lady Louise nor James is expected to undertake royal duties in the future.
Sophie’s attendance at the Paralympics follows her recent appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she celebrated Team GB’s female cyclists winning their first gold medal at the Bercy Arena.
