Laura Murphy has gone viral on TikTok after sharing her journey on a solo honeymoon following the death of her fiancé, Devon O’Grady, just a month before their wedding.
Laura had eagerly anticipated her wedding earlier this year, but her life took a devastating turn when Devon passed away at 31 due to cardiac arrest.
After the tragedy in May, the Canadian lawyer chose to take the honeymoon trip she had planned with her fiancé, seeking to discover if “life is worth living.”
Feeling incredibly isolated in her grief, Laura documented her experience on TikTok, where her videos quickly attracted millions of views.
“It’s very lonely and isolating because I knew no one my age who had lost a partner,” she told The Washington Post. “I needed to find people who could relate because I wanted to know how to move forward.”
Desiring to escape her hometown and their shared home, she packed her bags and traveled from Newfoundland to London and is currently in France.
From solo dinners to moments of tears in restaurants, she openly shares the raw sadness of losing her fiancé, hoping to connect with others who understand her pain.
Laura expressed on TikTok, “Early on, I asked my dad, ‘I need you to find someone who has been through this because I need to see evidence that it’s possible to survive it.’ I didn’t think I would, and some days I still don’t. I just refused to accept that this had happened.”
While she sometimes feels guilty about enjoying the trip, she acknowledges that remaining at home left her feeling guilty too, realizing she should live her life for both of them.
