The video, released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, captures the tense moments after Routh was pulled over on a Florida highway on Sunday.
In the footage, deputies are seen giving commands to Routh, who complies by walking backward with his shirt raised to show he had no hidden weapons. Routh, accused of trying to target Trump while he was golfing in West Palm Beach, calmly surrendered and was handcuffed by deputies armed with rifles.
Martin County Sheriff William Snyder previously described Routh’s behavior during the arrest as “perplexing.” In an interview with CNN, Snyder said, “His facial expression was so neutral, and his demeanor was calm. It looked like someone who had just come from a picnic and was heading home.”
Routh became the primary suspect after Secret Service agents discovered an AK-style rifle hidden in shrubbery roughly 400 yards from Trump’s golf course. An agent fired at the area upon seeing the weapon, causing Routh to flee in an SUV, leaving behind two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera.
After an alert from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Martin County authorities launched an extensive search, eventually apprehending Routh. He remains in custody ahead of his arraignment on September 30.
Routh is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, with additional charges expected.
