In a recent interview, Mead, who was part of the UEFA Women’s Euros-winning team in 2022, described Prince William’s relaxed demeanor and genuine passion for football.
Beth recounted how Prince William, despite his royal entourage, exuded humility and an easygoing attitude, even making a playful comment about the formalities that come with his role.
“He’s a lovely human and very down-to-earth,” Beth noted how much he enjoys football and how he showed enthusiasm when engaging with her about the sport.
Beth also reflected on receiving her MBE from Prince William, highlighting how his face lit up during their football conversation. “It was great to see his excitement about the game,” she said, emphasizing the Prince’s genuine love for football.
Beyond her royal encounters, Beth discussed her work with McDonald’s Fun Football, which aims to encourage young people, especially girls, to engage in football at the grassroots level. She and her England teammates have advocated for more sports and physical education for girls in schools, a cause they achieved significant progress on with the backing of Downing Street.
Beth also praised the Fun Football initiative for its impact, noting the program’s success in registering half a million boys and girls, and its accessibility and inclusiveness.
Reflecting on her own youth, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be involved in such a program, which she wishes she had access to as a child.
