Anthony Joshua’s chances of a rematch against Daniel Dubois are now uncertain, just two days after he suffered a knockout at Wembley.
Dubois successfully defended his IBF world heavyweight title in front of 96,000 fans, dropping Joshua four times before finishing him off in the fifth round.
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, previously mentioned a rematch clause that Joshua is likely to activate following his defeat on Saturday.
Hearn told DAZN, “I’m sure he’ll exercise that rematch clause; that’s a given. He’ll need a rest, and it’s a dangerous fight. Dubois is gaining confidence all the time. He’ll believe he can hurt him and can win, but full credit to Daniel Dubois for an excellent performance.”
Joshua has had previous rematches against Andy Ruiz Jr. and Oleksandr Usyk, avenging his loss to Ruiz in 2019.
However, Dubois’ promoter, Frank Warren, dismissed the notion of a rematch clause. He stated on talkSPORT that while Joshua reportedly has one, Dubois does not have a guaranteed rematch in his contract.
Nonetheless, he expressed that his camp would be open to discussions for a second fight between the two.
