The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the brutal murder of three individuals accused of witchcraft in Lamurde Local Government Area.
According to police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje, the victims—Lazarus Bashiru, Galion Isa, and Ajasko Yakubu—were tortured and killed by a group led by Salestina Bala and her associates.
The incident was reported to the Tigno Divisional Police Headquarters on September 14, 2024, by Dogara Sabon Reza and Jeri Dogara. The police condemned the extrajudicial killings and stated that security forces have been deployed to apprehend those responsible.
“Initial investigations have led to the arrest of the suspect. This brutal and violent act threatens to undermine law and order and is completely unacceptable,” the police statement read.
The Command also addressed circulating rumors of communal clashes in Lamurde, which claimed that violent Lunguda/Waja confrontations had resulted in six deaths. The police dismissed these claims as “fake news,” firmly stating that no such clashes had taken place.
“There is no truth to these reports, nor were there any Lunguda/Waja clashes,” the statement clarified, urging the public to avoid spreading false information that could incite violence.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the area while continuing the investigation into the witchcraft-related killings.
