An 80-year-old man has died following an assault by a group of five teenagers in a park in Leicestershire, UK.
The man was walking his dog near the entrance to Franklin Park on Bramble Way in Braunstone Town when he was seriously attacked around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 1. He passed away in the hospital on Monday night.
The teenagers, aged between 12 and 14, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. Police reported that the suspects fled the scene before emergency services arrived but were later located.
Detective Inspector Emma Matts stated, “Unfortunately, with the victim’s death last night, this case has now been upgraded to a murder investigation. Officers are working quickly to piece together the details of the attack, and several arrests have been made as we continue to investigate.”
She urged witnesses to come forward, saying, “We are asking anyone who was in the Franklin Park or Bramble Way area around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday to contact us. Did you witness the attack or see the victim or a group of young people leaving the area?”
A scene preservation remains in effect at the park as the investigation continues, and local officers are patrolling the area to address community concerns.
