A popular K-pop star has been removed from his boy band following allegations of an unspecified sexual crime, according to his label.
Taeil, a member of the boy band NCT, is currently under police investigation. His agency, SM Entertainment, announced on X that Taeil will be leaving the group after being accused in a criminal case related to a sexual offense. The label did not provide details about the nature of the allegations.
“We recognize the gravity of the situation and have decided that Taeil can no longer continue with the group’s activities,” the agency stated. “After discussions with Taeil, it has been decided that he will exit the group.”
The singer, whose real name is Moon Tae-il, previously held the Guinness World Record for being the fastest to reach one million Instagram followers.
Taeil was a member of NCT, or Neo Culture Technology, a highly popular South Korean boy band that debuted in 2016. The group includes over two dozen members spread across various subunits, such as NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT Wish. Taeil was part of NCT 127.
