The 81-year-old president spent approximately two hours at the North Shores near Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, accompanied by First Lady Jill Biden and her two sisters.
Biden appeared at ease, donning colorful swim trunks, a white T-shirt, and a black cap, while sitting on a beach chair and reviewing documents.
It has been nearly 10 days since Biden was last in the Oval Office, despite his pledge to “finish strong” by continuing to advance his policy agenda.
Biden left the White House on August 19 for the Democratic National Convention, where he delivered a stirring speech on the first night, endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s nominee. Rather than staying in Chicago for the remainder of the convention, Biden traveled to California, where he stayed at the $37 million estate of Joe Kiani, CEO of medical technology company Masimo.
His vacation at Kiani’s estate concluded on Sunday, after which he flew to Rehoboth Beach, where he owns a vacation home and plans to stay until Friday, according to the White House schedule.
Reports suggest that Biden is maintaining a low profile due to dissatisfaction with some fellow Democrats who have distanced themselves from him, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
Biden mentioned in an interview with “CBS News Sunday Morning” earlier this month that he was concerned about becoming a distraction in the upcoming races, noting, “A number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought I might hurt their campaigns, and I was worried that staying in the race would shift focus to issues like what Nancy Pelosi said.”
