A Florida teenager has been arrested for killing his girlfriend’s father following a heated dispute over what the father deemed ‘inappropriate’ social media photos.
Lawan Jr. Jones, 18, turned himself in to the police three days after fleeing the scene. The victim, 44-year-old Keith Poole, was shot multiple times outside his Pompano Beach home in front of his children.
Jones, who was in a relationship with Poole’s daughter, Jessie, and lived with Poole and his family, was involved in an argument with Poole after Poole discovered photos of Jones holding a firearm on social media. Poole, who found the posts inappropriate, demanded that Jones leave his home.
According to the arrest affidavit, a witness reported that Poole confronted Jones about the posts and informed him he had to move out. Jones reacted with anger, threatening to have his friends intervene.
The affidavit details that Jones then stepped back from the front door, drew a handgun from a satchel, and shot Poole twice in the face and chest. The witness noted that Poole was non-threatening and had not been aggressive.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found blood both inside and outside the open front door.
Tributes have been pouring in for Poole, who is remembered fondly by loved ones as a compassionate and beloved figure.
One mourner commented, “The way you raised and cared for your children was unmatched. Your presence alone spoke volumes.” Another wrote, “You were a true legend in Miami. Your kindness and the memories we made together will be missed. You are now a star in the universe, shining forever.”
