Shiloh Jolie made a rare public appearance in Los Angeles on Wednesday, her first sighting since news emerged about a postponed court hearing regarding her request to change her surname.
The 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt was spotted alone, dressed casually in a black hoodie, black jeans, and vibrant yellow sneakers.
Maintaining her distinctive style, Shiloh kept her look simple, accessorizing with a brown spring headband to manage her cropped blonde hair.
This appearance comes as Shiloh continues legal proceedings to remove “Pitt” from her surname. Earlier this week, her attorney announced that the court hearing had been delayed due to a clerical error.
Originally scheduled for this week, the hearing has been rescheduled for August 19. Shiloh has expressed a desire to be known as “Shiloh Nouvel Jolie” rather than “Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt,” a change that has reportedly distressed her father, Brad Pitt.
Peter Levine, Shiloh’s lawyer, explained, “Unfortunately, the court could not complete the background check in time for today’s hearing, so it has been rescheduled for August 19.” He added that a background check is required for all name-change petitions, and due to a clerical mistake, Shiloh’s hearing was postponed.
Shiloh’s request to change her name comes shortly after she turned 18 on May 27. State law requires that a legal name change petition be published in a newspaper at least a month before a judge can approve it.
Earlier this month, Shiloh took this step by publishing a notice in the Los Angeles Times, officially declaring her intention to change her legal name. According to People magazine, Brad Pitt is “aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name.”
