Royals Who Write With Their Left Hand

It’s well-known that Prince William, along with the Duchess of Edinburgh, is left-handed.

Prince William

Prince William, Britain’s future king, is well-known for being left-handed, often seen signing guest books with his left hand. He has even humorously remarked that “left-handers have better brains” than right-handers.

One of the earliest instances when this trait became widely known was when he signed a book on his first day at Eton. The moment was captured in a photograph with his parents, King Charles and Princess Diana, and his younger brother, Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Edinburgh

Duchess Sophie is another famous left-hander. The wife of Prince Edward is frequently photographed using her left hand to sign her name.

Prince George

It is commonly reported that Prince George is left-handed. However, some photos suggest he may also use his right hand dominantly.

For instance, at a polo match in June 2019, he was seen swinging a mallet with his right hand, and he famously stirred the Christmas pudding mixture in December 2019 with his right hand, alongside the late Queen, Prince Charles, and Prince William.

Princess Leonor of Spain

The future Spanish Queen confirmed she is left-handed as she signed the Congress book of honour during a ceremony to swear loyalty to the constitution, on her 18th birthday in October 2023.
