Sean Kingston, whose real name is Kiesan Anderson, and his mother, Janice Turner, entered their pleas on Monday during an arraignment before Broward Circuit Judge Ernest Kollra, as reported by the Sun Sentinel.
The pair is accused of defrauding multiple businesses, including a jewelry store, a luxury mattress company, a used luxury and exotic car dealership, and a high-end microLED TV company, since October 2023.
Kingston was arrested in May at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California’s Mojave Desert where he was performing, following a warrant issued by the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Turner was taken into custody on the same day after a SWAT team raided the singer’s rented mansion in Southwest Ranches.
Kingston, 34, and Turner, 61, are scheduled to return to court on October 11 and also face related charges in federal court. The charges include allegations of stealing money, jewelry, a Cadillac Escalade, and furniture.
Kingston, known for his 2007 hit “Beautiful Girls” and his 2010 collaboration with Justin Bieber on “Eenie Meenie,” was previously on probation for trafficking stolen property. His mother, Turner, had a prior conviction in 2006 for bank fraud involving over $160,000, for which she served nearly 1.5 years in prison.
The two have faced legal issues before: in 2015, a customized watch seller won a $356,000 judgment against them in a New York federal court for unpaid goods, and in 2018, a New York jeweler obtained a $301,000 judgment after they defrauded the store of nine items.
