Queen Mary is savoring a relaxing summer, having transitioned to holiday mode at Gråsten Palace, where she resides with King Frederik and their children—Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Princess Josephine, and Prince Vincent.
On Thursday, the 52-year-old Danish queen took to Instagram to share a stunning, close-up video of her garden, believed to be at Fredensborg Palace. The video, shot from a first-person perspective, captures her serene stroll through the lush garden filled with towering flowers. “A little late summer glimpse from our garden right now,” the queen wrote.
King Frederik and his family divide their time among various palaces, with Gråsten Palace serving as their summer retreat, located a three-hour drive from the capital.
The residence, originally a hunting lodge, features a modern white exterior and large Venetian doors leading to a spacious gravel path.
After several instances of demolition and a house fire, the property was acquired by the state and later returned to the royals in 1935 as a wedding gift to King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid.
The Gråsten Palace garden, originally designed in 1700, was redesigned in an English style upon Queen Ingrid’s request when she was crown princess. The palace also boasts an ornate church in its north wing, adorned with a grand Baroque altarpiece and a lavish stucco ceiling decorated with angels.
The royal children benefit from a farm-to-table diet thanks to the expansive kitchen garden at their summer residence, which grows a variety of fruits and vegetables.
