Princess Leonor has announced she passed her driving test, being seen behind the wheel for the first time.
The future queen, 18, was joined by her sister, Infanta Sofia, 17, her mother, Queen Letizia, 51, and her grandmother, Queen Sofia, 85, as the Spanish royals enjoyed a girls’ outing in Palma de Mallorca on Tuesday.
Leonor appeared calm and confident driving her family around the city after a sightseeing tour. Infanta Sofia beamed in the passenger seat beside her sister, while Queen Letizia and Queen Sofia waved from the back seats.
The group strolled around the Plaza Mayor, built on the site of the San Felipe Nerí Convent, before browsing an outdoor market.
Princess Leonor wore a strapless blue floral top with white linen trousers, and Queen Sofia matched in similar trousers and a navy blouse. Infanta Sofia, on summer break from her studies at UWC Atlantic College, wore a black cropped T-shirt and white broderie midi skirt. Queen Letizia opted for a pink and red tie-dye maxi dress with an embroidered bag.
The Spanish royals traditionally spend their summer break in Mallorca and have also shown support at the Paris 2024 Olympics. They attended a gala dinner hosted by the International Olympic Committee and the opening ceremony, cheering on the national team at events such as hockey, tennis, handball, and water polo.
King Felipe briefly joined his family in Mallorca but has returned to Paris to support Spain in the Games. On Monday, he watched the men’s 3×3 basketball final between the Netherlands and France with future Dutch queen, Princess Catharina-Amalia, 20, where the Dutch team won gold.
The Dutch and Spanish royals share a close friendship, as Princess Catharina-Amalia continued her studies in Madrid after kidnap threats forced her to leave her student accommodation at the University of Amsterdam in 2022.
