Prince Harry, 39, plans to visit New York City in September, coinciding with the UN General Assembly High-level Week (Sept. 22-29) and Climate Week (Sept. 23-27). This has led some to wonder if he might overlap with his older brother, Prince William, whose Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit is set for September 24 in New York.
However, Prince William, 42, will not attend the 2024 Earthshot Prize event. Although he was in New York for the summit in 2023, he will not be making the trip this year.
Prince William’s previous appearances at the Earthshot Prize events included Boston in 2022 and Singapore in 2023. The upcoming fourth Earthshot Prize Awards will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, in November.
The last time Prince William and Prince Harry were together was at their father King Charles’s coronation in May 2023, though they did not interact. The brothers have had limited contact since Prince Harry moved to California with Meghan Markle and stepped back from royal duties.
Their last meetings included the July 2021 statue unveiling for Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.
Reports suggest that tensions between the siblings began in 2016 when Prince William expressed concerns about Harry’s rapid relationship with Meghan. Harry later discussed the complexities of his relationship with William in his memoir, Spare. Recent reports indicate that Prince Harry’s attempts to reconnect with William have been unsuccessful.
During his New York visit, Prince Harry will focus on his patronages and charitable efforts, including engagements with African Parks, The HALO Trust, Travalyst, and the Diana Award. He will also promote The Archewell Foundation, which he co-founded with Meghan.
Harry’s previous visit to New York was in October 2023 for an Archewell Foundation event addressing child social media issues.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton have recently been seen at Balmoral Castle, their traditional summer retreat, but Prince Harry and Meghan were not invited this year.
Despite a positive meeting with King Charles earlier this year, communication between Harry and his father has since declined, with Harry reportedly struggling to reach the King.
