Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are currently enjoying the summer sunshine with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, the couple made a significant announcement on Thursday.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed that they will be embarking on a royal tour of Colombia, located in the northern part of South America. Although many details of the tour remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that the visit will occur later this year and will include stops in the capital city, Bogota, as well as the coastal regions.
Colombia’s vice-president, Francia Marquez, who invited the couple, confirmed the trip: “During their visit, the Duke and Duchess will join me in visiting Bogota, as well as the Caribbean and Pacific regions of Cartagena and Cali.
In these vibrant locations, they will have the exceptional opportunity to engage with leaders, youth, and women who embody the aspirations and voices of Colombians committed to progress. In addition to these meaningful interactions, the Duke and Duchess will experience the rich heritage of Colombia.”
The announcement also noted that their visit comes at a significant time, preceding the first Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, set to be held in Colombia this November. The Archewell Foundation, founded by the Duke and Duchess, is known for its global leadership in promoting a safer online environment.
The upcoming conference will introduce a comprehensive framework for creating safer physical and digital spaces, addressing issues like cyberbullying, online exploitation, and their mental health impacts. The conference aims to provide actionable solutions and commitments for countries worldwide.
During their visit, the Duke and Duchess, along with the Archewell Foundation, will participate in several activities related to this crucial topic. Their visit is expected to highlight Colombia’s role as a beacon of culture and innovation.
It is not yet known whether Harry and Meghan will bring their children on the tour. Prince Archie accompanied them on a previous trip to Africa when they were working royals.
However, during their visit to Nigeria earlier this year, Archie and Lilibet stayed at home. HELLO’s royal editor Emily Nash shared insights on A Right Royal Podcast, commenting, “It’s not easy to do these things at the best of times, let alone with small children.”
