A Palestinian father, Mohammed Abu Al-Qumsan, was heartbroken after an Israeli airstrike in Gaza killed his 4-day-old twin babies, their mother, and their grandmother.
The attack occurred in Deir Al-Balah, central Gaza Strip, while Mohammed was away obtaining birth certificates for his newborns.
Upon hearing the devastating news, Mohammed, who was at a local government office, was overwhelmed with grief.
Videos of him show him in deep distress, unable to be consoled, with the birth certificates he had gone to collect still in his possession.
“I don’t know what happened,” Mohammed said through his tears, still reeling from the shock. “I’m told it was a shell that hit the house. I didn’t even have the chance to celebrate their birth.”
According to Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry, the ongoing conflict, which erupted on October 7th following a deadly Hamas-led attack on Israel, has resulted in the deaths of 115 infants.
The conflict has also caused over 39,790 Palestinian deaths, with 1,200 Israelis killed in the initial attack.
