Nigerian Singer, Burna Boy, Officially Passed His African Giant Title To Rapper Falz The Bahd Guy

Burna Boy made this announcement on X.com on Thursday while also addressing his absence from the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests. He revealed that his resolve began to wane in 2020 during the ENDSARS protest, when some demonstrators called for a boycott of his music.

“The fight in me died on this day. Ogun go doggy, anybody wey call my name this time around,” Burna Boy tweeted, referencing an old video from October 2020 where protesters were heard chanting, “Don’t play Burna o, we don’t want Burna.”

His tweet led to a flurry of reactions from X users, with some criticizing him for his silence regarding the current protests. An anonymous user under the handle #boymanager0 commented, “Oga, shut up. Just because they did you wrong doesn’t mean you should give up. You taught us to keep fighting in your songs, but now you’re just talking nonsense.”

“I taught you to keep fighting your oppressors, but you chose to fight me,” Burna Boy responded.

Another user, #Xperience_Snr, wrote, “They didn’t just start shouting… ‘No Burna Boy, We No Want Burna Boy, Cancel’—that chant came from a deep disappointment from many Nigerians because you’ve constantly thrown us under the bus abroad and during elections and protests. You were silent.”

Some users also questioned Burna Boy’s self-styled ‘African Giant’ title.

“Are you not supposed to be the Giant of Africa like you claimed? But when it’s time to lend your voice, you suddenly become the ant of Africa,” wrote #Tooshugary4U.

Similarly, #jr_barry remarked, “Because you want to go ghost and you’re calling yourself an African Giant.”

In his final remarks, Burna Boy declared, “I don hand am over to Falz bros,” suggesting that he has officially handed over the title to fellow musician Falz.
