Man Detained For Scaling Eiffel Tower On Final Day Of Olympics

A man was arrested on Sunday for climbing the Eiffel Tower just hours before the closing ceremony of the Olympics, according to Paris police.

The man was seen scaling the tower around 2:45 p.m. local time (1:45 p.m. BST), prompting an immediate response from officers who arrested him.

Details about his motives and nationality have not been released.

Social media videos captured the shirtless man climbing the tower near the Olympic rings displayed for the summer games.

In another video, he is seen being escorted away by police with his hands cuffed, remarking to a bystander, “Bloody warm, innit?”

During the incident, French police evacuated the area around the Eiffel Tower.

While the Eiffel Tower was a focal point during the Olympic opening ceremony, it was not scheduled to be part of the closing ceremony later that day.
