Lady Louise Windsor, the 20-year-old daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, resides at the University of St Andrews during term time. However, her university accommodation might defy typical expectations of student halls.
Accustomed to the luxury of her home at Bagshot Park in Surrey, Louise’s university residence is also quite plush. Though she is believed to have since moved into a house share, she initially lived in St Salvator’s Hall, known as “Sallies,” during her first year, where the accommodation offers a touch of luxury.
Sallies provides catered living, so there’s no need for last-minute meals like pesto pasta. Students enjoy meals in a dining room reminiscent of Hogwarts, with the option to prepare light snacks in a shared kitchen. The common room is equipped with a piano, TV, and snooker table, enhancing the experience.
The halls, where William and Kate also previously resided, include the added benefit of a professional cleaner who visits weekly to maintain the space. Lady Louise’s commitment to public service is evident in her university life, as every resident at Sallies has the opportunity to attend High Table. This involves a formal dinner with a prominent community or academic member, where students dress in formal attire and enjoy a sherry reception, a three-course meal, and an evening with port, tea, coffee, and a guest speaker in the Regents’ Room.
St Salvator’s Hall is also aesthetically pleasing, with its main entrance framed by stairs and a pristine lawn. Students celebrate the end of the year with a picnic on the lawn before final exams, known as ‘Sallies Day.’ The hall is conveniently located next to the university’s quadrangle and features an annex, Gannochy House, offering 85 undergraduate apartments.
