The 20-year-old daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh is eager to serve her King and country and has developed a strong passion for the Army Cadets while balancing her studies at St Andrews University, according to The Sun.
A member of the University Officers’ Training Corps (UOTC) at St Andrews, Louise is receiving paid military training designed to complement her academic pursuits. Her training includes Reserve Officer modules that will prepare her for a future military career after graduation. The UOTC program covers various skills, from uniform protocol to leadership in challenging situations.
Louise, who is eighth in line to the throne, has expressed her interest in a career in the military, diplomacy, or law on her LinkedIn profile. While other female royals, such as Princess Anne and the Princess of Wales, hold honorary military titles, neither has served in the military.
Louise, who shared a close bond with her grandmother, the Queen, is likely inspired by her grandmother’s dedication to the Armed Forces. As Princess Elizabeth, Her Late Majesty joined the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) in 1945, becoming the first female Royal Family member to serve as a full-time active member of the Armed Services.
Since starting at St Andrews in 2022, Lady Louise has stepped away from the royal limelight to focus on her studies. The university is known for its commitment to student privacy, a standard that was upheld during Prince William’s time there, as explained by Dr. Brian Lang, the Principal and Vice-Chancellor.
He said: “One thing that I did as soon as we knew William was going to be a student was to warn the student body that we expected them to respect the privacy of information.
“So, I made it quite clear to the students by doing an interview with the student newspaper, in which I emphasised that we would take a very, very dim view of any inappropriate information being passed on—not just about William, but about any other student.”
