King Frederik And Crown Prince Christian Enjoyed Rare Father-Son Outing During Paris 2024 Olympics

The Danish monarch, 56, and his 18-year-old heir were among the spectators cheering on Denmark in the Men’s Handball final against Germany at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France.

The palace shared a photo of Frederik and Christian in their seats before the match, with the caption: “Let’s hope Denmark can end the Olympic Games with a gold medal.”

The two royals were elegantly dressed for the event, with Frederik in a navy jacket and an open-collared shirt, while Christian nearly matched him in a tweed outfit.

Their presence proved fortuitous for Denmark, who triumphed in the final with a score of 39-26. This victory marked Denmark’s first gold since the Rio 2016 Olympics and followed a silver medal in Tokyo 2021. The Danish royal court also posted images of Frederik and Christian celebrating post-match, hands raised in triumph, with the caption: “Congratulations on the gold.”

King Frederik and Queen Mary have been prominent at the Paris 2024 Olympics, attending the Opening Ceremony and various events including tennis, badminton, athletics, basketball, and dressage.

They briefly returned to Denmark last week for the funeral of Per Thornit, Frederik’s former head of court, and were reunited with Frederik’s brother, Prince Joachim, and his wife, Princess Marie. The royal couple is scheduled to visit the Danish island of Bornholm on August 19.
