King Charles Braved The Rain To Attend The Mey Highland Games, Marking The Start Of His Summer Break In Style

The event, first held in 1970 to commemorate the birthday of the late Queen Mother, became an annual tradition thanks to her enthusiasm.

Despite the wet weather, the King arrived in traditional attire, wearing a kilt, tan coat, tartan tie, and knee-high socks to ward off the cold. He also carried an umbrella as he exited his car. Due to the rain, the monarch joined other attendees in a tent to watch events such as a tug-of-war contest and a traditional dance by children.

Charles appeared to enjoy the festivities, laughing and smiling as he shook hands with members of the crowd, including a young baby.

Earlier in the week, the King arrived in Scotland and visited a giant peat bog in Caithness that has recently been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. He wore Highland dress for this appearance as well, including a Sgian Dubh (a dagger hidden in his sock) and a cornflower in the lapel of his tweed jacket.

King Charles and Queen Camilla are expected to host their families at Balmoral, with the castle closing to the public on August 11. However, it seems the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not been invited. Royal sources confirmed to People that Harry and Meghan have been snubbed since stepping down as senior royals in 2020.

People also reported that Harry and Charles are no longer in contact. According to a friend of Harry, his calls to his father go unanswered, even when trying to inquire about the King’s health. Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the matter when asked by HELLO! about Harry and Charles’ private communication.
