In a profoundly tragic turn of events, Ruth Hwara, who was eagerly awaiting a critical kidney transplant, has passed away. The devastating news was confirmed by influencer and entrepreneur Joey Nyikadzino on her Facebook page.
On Thursday, August 15, Nyikadzino shared the sorrowful update, revealing that she learned of Ruth’s death through a message in the Hwara family WhatsApp group. She extended her condolences and issued a stern warning to those responsible for delaying Ruth’s treatment, suggesting they would face divine retribution.
“We just saw a message in the Hwara group that Ruth is no more. May her soul rest in peace. Zimbabwe wanted you to live and fulfill your dreams, but it was not to be. Whoever delayed Ruth’s treatment, may God deal with you,” Joey Nyikadzino wrote in her post.
Ruth Hwara’s death follows the revelation that Tendai Chibwe, an Ecocash agent in Dzivarasekwa 4, allegedly stole $13,000 in funds donated for her kidney transplant. Chibwe, 46, was granted bail of $100 after appearing before Harare magistrate Simon Kandiyero on fraud charges and is set to return to court on September 26.
The situation unfolded when Ruth’s uncle, Nigel Makono, sought to raise funds for her urgent medical procedure via social media. Donations were directed to Makono’s EcoCash account, which eventually reached its limit, prompting him to seek Chibwe’s help.
Chibwe is accused of deceiving Makono by claiming the funds were accessible but only providing a fraction of the total amount. Despite Makono transferring an additional $13,000, he reportedly received only $1,100 from Chibwe, who then became evasive when queried about the remaining funds.
Ruth’s untimely death has left many grieving and questioning the circumstances that led to the delay in her treatment.
