A Kano State Mobile Court has ordered the detention of 632 participants in the End Bad Governance protest, accusing them of vandalizing public and government properties during the demonstration.

The defendants face charges including criminal conspiracy, theft, unlawful assembly, inciting disturbance, trespass, and mischief by fire.

State Director of Public Prosecution, Salisu Tahir, informed the court that the defendants allegedly committed these offenses on August 1 during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest. He claimed that they trespassed and damaged government and public properties in the state.

“The defendants broke into shops and looted goods,” the DPP told the court.

The prosecutor noted that the charges violate sections 97, 287, 229, 336, 349, and 247 of the Penal Code.

Some defendants pleaded guilty, while others pleaded not guilty.

Following the remand order, the court, presided over by three Senior Judicial officials, adjourned the case until August 19 for further hearing.
