Four men tragically died on Saturday, August 10, after falling into a soakaway pit in Umuoyala Egbu, located in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to an eyewitness, the pit had been evacuated by workers the day before. However, the property owner reported issues with water flow blockages.
In response, one of the workers, named Eke, entered the pit to address the problem but did not reappear.
Three additional men entered the pit to attempt a rescue but also lost their lives.
The bodies were later recovered and taken to Holy Rosary Hospital in Emekuku, where they were pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
ASP Henry Okoye, the Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, confirmed the incident but mentioned that full details were still pending.
