Greek Royals Display Unity As They Gather For A Family Funeral

Members of the Greek royal family came together on Thursday to pay tribute to Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark, who passed away on July 28 at the age of 85.

Prince Michael, a cousin of the late Duke of Edinburgh, was the last surviving grandchild of King George I, who ruled Greece from 1863 until his assassination on March 18, 1913.

The funeral took place at the Church of Saint Theodores in Athens, and Prince Michael was later buried at the Tatoi Royal Cemetery, located 17 miles from the city center. This burial ground, used by the Greek royals since 1880, is also the resting place of Prince Philip’s father, Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark.

Among those present at the funeral were Crown Prince Pavlos and his wife, Crown Princess Marie-Chantal, Prince Nikolaos, Prince Philippos, and Queen Sofia, who is Greek by birth and served as the Queen of Spain from 1975 to 2014.
