Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, of Psquare fame, recently revealed in an interview with City 105.5FM that his twin brother and former bandmate, Peter Okoye, had him arrested by the EFCC in December 2023.
Paul explained that he was detained by the EFCC following a petition filed by his brother concerning his lifestyle. During the interrogation, he was reportedly threatened with a 20-year prison sentence.
The EFCC reviewed his bank statements and questioned him about payments made into his account that his brother had not received, despite their shared status as Psquare.
Paul clarified that the accusations involved money dating back to 2006/2007, specifically questioning a $200,000 deposit in his account while Peter did not have a similar balance.
He attributed the discrepancy to his different approach to finances: while Peter spends on luxury items, Paul prefers to save, resulting in a larger balance in his account.
He explained this to the EFCC officials, who ultimately declared him innocent after their investigation.
Paul also mentioned that, despite being cleared of the allegations, Peter did not offer an apology during a recent family meeting. Paul chose to speak out now to address potential impacts on his work with brands.
