In a recent video on his YouTube channel with former footballer Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo expressed his ambition to join the exclusive club of players who have scored 1,000 goals.
The Portuguese star recently scored his 899th goal during Al-Nassr’s victory over Al Feiha, a remarkable free kick that also marked his 64th career free-kick goal.
At 39 years old, Ronaldo reflected on his goal-setting, saying, “I feel good, I think I’m still good-looking [laughs]. I feel like I can still dribble, shoot, score goals, and jump.”
He added, “The day I feel like I’m not contributing or producing anything, I’ll pack up and leave football. But right now, I feel far from that day.”
Ronaldo expressed his immediate goal of reaching 900 goals, followed by the 1,000-mark, with a twist: he wants to have video evidence of each goal he scores, a nod to the lack of footage for some goals scored by legends like Pele and Romario.
The striker also addressed criticism for not scoring in the 2024 European Championship, saying, “I scored 60 goals last season. People say, ‘Oh, but you didn’t score five goals in the European Championship.’ So what? I’ve already scored 130. I’m the greatest goalscorer in football history.”
Ronaldo concluded, “I plan to raise the bar even higher. Soon, I’ll reach 900 goals, and then 1,000. I aim to hit that mark, though I might be around 41 years old by then,” reflecting on his potential retirement plans.
