Chappell Roan took to TikTok on Monday to express her frustration with individuals who overstep her boundaries. The 26-year-old singer-songwriter, who has seen a surge in popularity this year with her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, made a passionate statement on the platform following a series of negative encounters.
“Consider this for a moment,” the Willard, Missouri native said. “If you saw a stranger on the street, would you shout at her from your car? Would you harass her in public? Would you approach her and ask for a photo, and if she says no, would you then get upset with her?”
Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, continued to discuss situations where she feels her privacy is being violated. “Would you be offended if she declined your request for her time because she has her own life? Would you stalk her family, follow her around, or try to invade her personal life and then bully her online? This is someone you don’t know, and who doesn’t know you. Would you assume she’s a good or bad person based on what you read about her online?”
The Good Luck, Babe! artist emphasized that both she and her fans are essentially strangers. “I’m just a random person, and you’re a random person—just think about that for a moment.”
Roan rejected the idea that she should accept unwelcome attention as part of her rising fame. “I don’t care if harassment and stalking are considered normal for people in the public eye. That doesn’t make it acceptable or something I should tolerate,” she said. “I don’t want whatever people think they’re entitled to when they see a celebrity.”
She concluded by stating that she doesn’t care if others perceive her as selfish for saying no to photo requests or personal interactions. “It’s not normal, it’s weird, and I don’t give a f*** what people think about it.”
