Actress Gina Gershon shared a memorable behind-the-scenes story from her first sex scene with Tom Cruise during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live.”
Gershon, who starred alongside Cruise in the 1988 film “Cocktail,” discussed the challenges of filming her first simulated sex scene.
Gershon recalled that Cruise was an excellent scene partner and went out of his way to ensure she felt comfortable, though there was one unfortunate mishap. She had warned Cruise that she was “very ticklish” and asked him to avoid certain areas during the scene.
However, during one take, Cruise accidentally grabbed her stomach, causing Gershon to reflexively knee him in the nose.
Although Gershon felt awful about the incident and apologized repeatedly, Cruise was understanding and took the blame, acknowledging that he had crossed a boundary.
Gershon also mentioned that their on-screen chemistry didn’t translate off-screen, as Cruise was married to Mimi Rogers at the time, and Rogers was often present on the set of “Cocktail.”
Nevertheless, Gershon humorously noted that they “kissed as much as they could” and joked about wishing for more on-screen kisses.
