Actress Danielle Fishel Publicly Shared Her Recent Breast Cancer Diagnosis

The 43-year-old star of “Boy Meets World” revealed on the August 19 episode of her podcast, Pod Meets World, that she has been diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), an early form of breast cancer.

“I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for ductal carcinoma in situ, a type of breast cancer,” Fishel said. “It’s very, very early—technically stage zero.”

Fishel plans to undergo surgery to address the condition. She mentioned she had initially intended to keep the diagnosis private, sharing it only with her immediate family and close friends.

However, she decided to disclose it more widely after being inspired by author Glennon Doyle’s perspective on embracing the challenges of the beginning or middle of a story.

The actress noted that the DCIS was detected early due to a reminder she had set on her phone to schedule her annual mammogram.

“I want to share this to encourage others to get their screenings,” she said. “If it’s time for your appointment, or if you’ve never had one before, make sure to go. If you have to find out that you have cancer, it’s better to do so when it’s at stage 0 if possible.”
