Udouko Ememabasi reported that the incident began on the evening of August 12, 2024, when she and her friend, Eseh Gift Uduoghene, returned to find a waste bin placed in front of their room.

After inquiring with a neighbor, they learned that the bin had been placed there by their landlord. When they approached the landlord’s mother to ask about it, she reportedly became hostile, insulting and assaulting Ememabasi, hitting her on a spot where she had previously undergone surgery.

Ememabasi and her friend retreated into their apartment, locking all doors and windows, but the landlord’s mother continued to bang on their door and windows, calling them derogatory names.

As night fell, the landlord’s sons arrived and attempted to break into the apartment. Despite contacting the police, they were told they could not respond, leaving Ememabasi and her friend feeling threatened and vulnerable.

The next day, they found their apartment door padlocked from the outside, with their electricity and water turned off. When Ememabasi’s father arrived to intervene, the landlord took her apartment key and one of his associates assaulted her and her friend with a wire-like object. Her friend was injured and bleeding. Despite her father’s pleas, the violence continued until there were numerous bystanders outside.

Dr. Surajudeen Fatai, LASU’s Dean of Students’ Affairs, intervened but faced hostility from a large crowd. The incident was reported to the Adolf Police Station in Iba. Ememabasi has called on authorities for protection and justice, citing threats from the landlord and his mother in response to her reporting them to the police.

Shodipo, however, denies the allegations, claiming that Ememabasi first assaulted his mother and stating that the matter is now in court. He insists that the allegations of threats are false and that he himself was detained for five days.

Efforts to reach SP Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, for comment were unsuccessful.
