A Chinese National Imprisoned For Operating A Drone Over Zimbabwe Without A License

Dai Pengfei, a 55-year-old Chinese national, has been sentenced to 30 days in prison for flying a drone without the necessary license.

Pengfei appeared before the Masvingo Magistrates’ Court, facing charges for the unauthorized use of the drone.

The incident took place on August 9, 2024, at Nyika Growth Point in Bikita, where police observed Pengfei operating the drone at a height of about 15-20 meters above rooftops.

Unable to produce the required permit for the drone, Pengfei was promptly arrested.

The court has imposed a penalty of either a US$200 fine or 30 days in jail.
