The mass wedding took place on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Bungudu town, the headquarters of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The 105 brides were selected from the 21 political wards of Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency.
During his speech at the event, the lawmaker stated that all the beneficiaries were provided with household materials such as beds, mattresses, wardrobes, bed sheets, and pillows.
“We paid a dowry of N100,000 for each of the 105 brides. During our campaign, we promised to support families affected by banditry,” Zubairu said. “Today, I am fulfilling one of my campaign promises by sponsoring 105 brides for marriage to their suitors.”
Zubairu explained that most of the brides had lost their parents to banditry, while others were selected from less privileged families. In addition to the dowry payment, each groom received N100,000, and each bride received N50,000 to start any business of their choice.
Abdulrahman Kawu-Sumaila, Chairman of the occasion and a senator from Kano, praised the lawmaker for his generous act and encouraged constituents to support and pray for him.
He advised the newly married couples to be patient with each other, emphasizing that marriage is an act of faith. Kawu-Sumaila also personally donated N20,000 to each couple.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, community leaders, politicians, and other dignitaries from the constituency.
