Woman, 21, stabbed to DEATH as 22-year-old man is arrested

A five hour manhunt has ended in the arrest of a man after a young woman was allegedly stabbed to death.

Emergency services were called to a unit complex on the Great Western Highway at Kingswood in Sydney’s west at about 1.40pm.

DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT

A woman, 21, found with two stab wounds to her chest died at the scene, despite desperate attempts by paramedics to revive her.

NSW Police launched a search for a man allegedly seen fleeing the scene. 

POLICE MADE ARREST

Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 22-year-old man a few kilometres away in Derby Street, Penrith.

He was taken to Penrith Police Station, where he is assisting police with inquiries.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

Earlier at a press conference, Detective Superintendent Trent King said the man was last seen on foot running from the unit complex.

It’s believed the man and woman were known to each other.

The woman is yet to be formally identified and a report will be prepared for the coroner. 

A crime scene has been established with detectives launching an investigation.

Superintendent King said the woman was living in a share house arrangement with other people.

He added that neither the victim or the man were known to police for domestic violence related incidents.
