United Kingdom: A Nigerian Man Who S*Xually Assaulted And Brutally Beat A Woman Causing Her Leap From A Window To Flee Has Been Sentenced To 25 Years In Prison

A Nigerian man has been sentenced in the United Kingdom for violently assaulting and raping a woman, who later escaped by jumping from a window.

Oladip Oshodi, 48, residing in Dagenham, East London, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, July 5, 2024. He received a 25-year prison term for two counts of rape, administering a noxious substance, threats to kill, grievous bodily harm, and controlling coercive behavior.

Oshodi was apprehended on July 12, 2023, by detectives from the Met’s East Area Public Protection Unit and remained in custody throughout the legal proceedings. On May 10 of this year, he was found guilty of all charges.

The incident occurred on the evening of July 11, 2023, at Oshodi’s residence in the Mayesbrook area of Dagenham. Despite the victim clearly stating her refusal to engage in s*xual activity with Oshodi, he proceeded to rape her twice that night.

Additionally, he physically assaulted her, prompting her desperate escape through a ground-floor window onto the street, where she collapsed. Concerned passersby alerted the police and assisted in moving her to safety.

She was subsequently hospitalized for treatment and received support from specialist officers during her recovery.

Detective Constable Serena McGhee said: “Oshodi is a dangerous man and it is right that he will now serve a long sentence in a place where he will not pose a threat to women. I commend the bravery of the victim and the witnesses in this case. Oshodi showed no remorse throughout the investigation and trial, and I am pleased that he has been made to face the consequences of his actions.”

PC Kayleigh Grafton, who is a specialist officer dealing with victims of s*xual offences, said: “The survivor in this case was fleeing for her life when she jumped onto the street to escape this man.

“I hope that the sentence handed down encourages other women who have been the victims of s*xual offences to come forward. We are here to support you and our mission is to keep you safe and support you every step of the way.
