To celebrate Prince George’s 11th birthday on Monday, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a new portrait of their eldest son. Princess Kate, an avid photographer, captured the charming black-and-white photo herself.
Taken earlier this month in Windsor, the snapshot shows the young prince sitting on a stone bench, leaning slightly forward, and smiling at his mother. For the occasion, George wore a smart suit and a crisp white shirt, and he also sported what appeared to be a friendship bracelet on his wrist.
Proud parents William and Kate posted the portrait on their official Instagram page with the caption: “Wishing Prince George a very happy 11th birthday today!” The touching tribute led to an outpouring of messages from royal fans worldwide. Many fans were quick to send birthday wishes, and there were numerous comments about George’s mature appearance.
One fan wrote, “Happy Birthday Prince George!!! I can’t believe how big he’s gotten!!” Another noted, “Omg! How did he grow so much?? He’s such a gentleman!!” A third added, “How is he already 11??? They are growing up so fast!”
Kate’s portrait broke royal tradition by being released in black-and-white, as all of her previous birthday portraits have been in color.
Additionally, the couple’s social media team posted the portrait directly on social media, foregoing the tradition of sharing official images under embargo on the eve of George’s birthday—a change they first implemented in April for Prince Louis’ sixth birthday.
