A 72-year-old man, Patrick Ukpenor, has been remanded in prison custody by an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly s*xually assaulting a six-year-old girl.
Magistrate E. Kubrinhe ordered that Ukpebor be remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre until August 13 for trial, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.
Ukpenor did not enter a plea after the charge was read.
Prosecutor Insp John Iberedem informed the court that Ukpenor committed the offence on July 4 at Amutu Street, Ilasamaja, Lagos.
Iberedem stated that the septuagenarian s*xually assaulted the six-year-old girl, which violates Sections 261 and 263(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
S*xual assault carries a three-year jail term, while s*xual assault by penetration is punishable by life imprisonment upon conviction.
