Kenyan police have apprehended a suspected serial killer who admitted to murdering 42 women, including his wife, and disposing of their dismembered bodies in a Nairobi landfill.
Authorities have recovered nine mutilated bodies from the garbage site in the Mukuru slum area.
Acting Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja stated that the 33-year-old suspect, identified as Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, was arrested around 3:00 am (0000 GMT) on Monday, July 15, near a bar in Nairobi.
‘We are dealing with a serial k!ller, a psychopathic serial killer who has no respect for human life,’ the head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin told reporters. ‘We are dealing with a vampire, a psychopath.’
Amin said Khalusha claimed the murders took place between 2022 and July 11 this year.
‘The suspect confessed to have lured, k!lled, and disposed of 42 female bodies at the dumping site,’ he added. ‘Unfortunately, and this is very sad, the suspect alleged that his first victim was his wife… who he strangled to death, before dismembering her body and disposing it at the same site.’
The suspect was located following an investigation involving analysis of one of the victim’s mobile phones, Amin explained, in a collaborative effort between the DCI and the National Police Service.
During the operation, “he was in the process of luring another victim,” Amin disclosed.
Khalusha admitted to having engaged in sexual acts with some of his victims, Amin added.
Officers conducted a search of his single-room residence, situated just 100 meters from where the bodies were discovered. They found a machete, nylon sacks, rope, a pair of industrial rubber gloves, as well as a “pink female handbag” and “two pairs of female underwear.”
Amin assured that the areas would remain active crime scenes, pledging a comprehensive investigation.
Police have recovered nine mutilated and dismembered bodies from the crime scene thus far, with Kanja indicating that autopsies on the victims would be conducted on Monday. Eight of the victims have been confirmed as female.
