According to emerging reports, members of a gang led by the infamous warlord Jimmy “Barbecue” Cherizier stormed the police station and allegedly murdered at least 20 officers.
The assault reportedly began on Sunday, June 30.
Sources indicate that the attack was carried out by members of the “Vivre Ensemble” gang coalition, under the leadership of “Barbecue,” with involvement from the Bougoy Gang as well.
In response to the assault, a robust police counter-offensive led to the death of several gang members.
Reports from Haiti Libre mentioned the capture of Bougoy leader Ti Bébé Bougoy, who had recently boasted of superiority over police forces.
Initial reports suggested that the assailants used heavy machinery to demolish parts of the police station, although authorities have reportedly seized this equipment.
In previous incidents, the gang has been reported to recruit homeless and vulnerable teenagers as foot soldiers in ongoing gang conflicts.
