Three of Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea teammates have unfollowed him on Instagram after he filmed himself and the Argentinian national team singing a ‘racist’ chant directed at French footballers.
The midfielder faced backlash for posting the provocative video following Argentina’s Copa America win against Colombia on Sunday, July 14. Philippe Diallo, president of the French Football Federation (FFF), condemned the chant as ‘racist and discriminatory’ and announced plans to file a legal complaint with FIFA.
Chelsea teammate Wesley Fofana, who is French and the son of an Ivorian father, took to X (formerly Twitter) to label the video as ‘uninhibited racism.’
It has now been revealed that Fofana, along with Axel Disasi and Malo Gusto, have unfollowed Fernandez on social media.
Chelsea are conducting their own investigation into the incident, with sources indicating that they are treating the matter seriously and will address it accordingly.
The Premier League club has a significant number of French players who are black or mixed race, including Malo Gusto, Lesley Ugochukwu, Christopher Nkunku, Fofana, Axel Disasi, and Benoit Badiashile.
