After a heated discussion between the two presidential candidates about their golf skills, former President Trump has issued a challenge to President Biden.
At a rally held at his Doral course in south Florida, the 45th president proposed an 18-hole golf match, offering $1 million to a charity of Biden’s choice if he were to lose.
“I’m officially challenging crooked Joe to a golf match right here on Doral’s Blue Monster, considered one of the greatest tournament golf courses in the world,” Trump declared on Tuesday. “It will be among the most-watched sporting events in history, possibly bigger than the Ryder Cup or even the Masters.”
“I’ll even give Joe Biden 10 strokes a side. That’s a lot — 20 strokes in total, if you don’t play golf. And if he wins, I’ll donate $1 million to the charity of his choice. I bet he won’t take me up on the offer.”
In response, Biden’s spokesperson, James Singer, fired back, criticizing Trump’s recent public absence and dismissing the challenge as a distraction from more pressing issues.
“Donald Trump hasn’t been seen in public for 12 days, and now he’s challenging the President of the United States to golf,” Singer’s statement read. “We’d challenge Donald Trump to focus on creating jobs or standing up to Putin, but he’s more interested in his own agenda.”
The golf debate stemmed from a viral moment during their June 2 debate in Atlanta, where Trump boasted of winning two club championships and questioned Biden’s golf abilities.
Biden countered by claiming to have reduced his golf handicap to six as vice president, later correcting it to eight. However, Trump, known for his avid interest in golf, disputed Biden’s claims.
“The biggest lie is that he’s a six handicap — that’s not true,” Trump asserted, noting his own recorded handicap as low as 2.5.
The debate over their golf handicaps remains unresolved, though reigning U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau has offered to help settle the debate.
